| Welcome reception |
Today we embarked the Akademik Ioffe at Puerto Ushuaia with much anticipation. This group of 96 passengers comes from many parts of the world. England, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, Israel, USA including Hawaii and Canada have been identified so far. We unpacked our suitcases and got settled into cabin 513, our home for the next 11 days. We were treated to a Welcome Reception in the dining room. Sangria & appetizers including caviar were served. There was much excitement as names were exchanged and first impressions were formed. The One Ocean staff were introduced and orientations provided. The doctor on board reminded everyone to wash their hands prior to entering the dining room and strive for a flu free cruise. The 24/7 help number is 666.

| Lifeboat on port side |
The mandatory lifeboat drill was held and the "port" side won....yeah us! Each lifeboat holds 66 passengers plus staff. Enclosed, self righting and provisions for 14 days. We would become a very bonded group in those tight quarters.
Explore the 6 floors of the ship....hot tub on deck 6, plunge pool on deck 5, nope we won't be doing that!

Dinner at 7:30 4 course gourmet meal followed by setting sail at 9:00pm.
Turn down service, chocolate and wine
Expect to reach open water around 2 am
11:10. Tired...good night.
